Fenella Kernebone finds street art on the walls of the NGV; Henry Wagons plays chess with leading contemporary artists; Ursula Yovich and her inspiring musical life story; and The Orbweavers play the program out. This week on Art Nation, Fenella Kernebone visits the NGA's latest exhibition, Space Invaders. Featuring work by Australia's most prolific street artists, it's billed as playful, edgy, clever and satirical. Previously only seen gracing the walls of dingy alleyways, at last this work has claimed a spot on the pristine walls of one of the nation's esteemed galleries.Henry Wagons pays respect to The Art of Chess at Bendigo Art Gallery. This travelling exhibition from RS&A Gallery London is an ongoing project that features chess sets designed by leading contemporary artists including Tracey Emin, Damien Hirst, Maurizio Cattelan and Paul McCarthy.Art Nation also profiles Ursula Yovich who recently brought her emotive one-woman cabaret show to The Melbourne Festival. Magpie Blues is Yorvich's musical account of growing up in the Northern Territory as the offspring of a Serbian father and an Arnhem Land mother. Her musical story is soulfully sung with support from her four-piece band, and it is an inspirational tale. Closing the show is a performance by Melbourne band, The Orbweavers |
