Summary The Czech architect, Jan Kaplicky fled his homeland in 1968 and set up a practice in London. He became known for his futuristic and colourful constructions such as the Selfridges building in Birmingham. This program looks at his winning bid for the National Library in Prague, which despite its success received huge opposition from locals due to its octopus-like shape and bright gold and fuchsia colours which were considered totally unsuitable for Prague.
