| Summary |
European kings and queens, princes and princesses tell their family history in this six-part series. This episode follows Queen Victoria's search for a suitable princess for her eldest son, Edward (VII). It was no easy task. Victoria was very favourably disposed towards the German dukedoms and kingdoms. A German princess was sought but there was not an appropriate match. Rumour had it that the Czar was engaged in a similar hunt and had his eye on Christian IX's eldest daughter, Alexandra. Victoria also felt that Alexandra would be a good match for Edward and was determined that he marry her. Edward (VII) bowed to his mother's will but the wedding was postponed for a couple of years when Victoria's beloved husband, Prince Albert, suddenly died.
