We spoke them aloud. Until - being a clever species - we found other ways to tell those tales. First we bound them into manuscripts, and from the late Middle Ages - and Gutenberg - we printed them out in books.Early last century came the paperback... now the e-book. But you only have to see the massive growth in book clubs and writers festivals to know we still like to gather and share stories.
