Compass: Whatever Happened To ; Series 29, Episode 14 |
Summary |
In this six-part series, Compass revisits influential religious and social movements in Australia's recent past from Sunday Schools to the Maharishi, from the RSL to Women's Lib. Some are grounded in powerful spiritual beliefs, others espouse philosophies and values that have changed lives and left a lasting legacy. After WW2 the Anglican Church in Australia introduced marriage guidance to try to revive marriages threatened by the inevitable fallout of war. Amidst the social upheaval of the 1960s and 1970s marriage guidance became a secular service that reflected the mood of the times, evolving and transforming into the multi-million dollar industry it is today. In a society where relationships are under even greater stress, couples counselling will always be challenging but it remains essential for the future well-being of our society. Compass follows the changes in society and their impact on marriage; how marriage guidance has developed over the years; the values that underpin it and how it has evolved to address the needs of modern families.
