*Surgical Scenes*Adam Pearson is a 25-year-old business graduate from Brighton. He has a condition known as NF1, or Neurofibromatosis, which causes benign growths (fibromas), to grow on nerve endings all over the body. In Adam's case, the majority of the growths are on his face and head.Whilst it is impossible to get rid of these fibromas completely, they can be reduced and de-bulked by surgery. Thus far, Adam has had 27 such procedures, but the growths are still prominent and impair both his hearing and his vision. Adam is blind in one eye and partially sighted in the other. He also has 40% hearing loss in his right ear. Adam is on the Changing Faces Young People's Council, and author of 'The challenge of facial disfigurement'.Louisa Day is a 21-year-old makeup artist who works as a beautician at Peter Jones in Sloane Square. Louisa spends at least two hours getting ready for work and has an extensive daily beauty routine which includes clipping in hair extensions, fake tanning, applying false eyelashes and a full face of makeup. She hasn't left the house without makeup since she was 15 and says that it wouldn't cross her mind to do so. In addition to non-invasive treatments and augmentation, Louisa has also had filler treatments (getting her lips and facial lines plumped out by injections of collagen), the results of which she loves, but which she describes as extremely painful |
