Summary In this case study, we discuss the opportunities and challenges that we have faced in our research evaluating the implementation of a mobile digital mental health platform to patients' traditional care in a Canadian tertiary mental healthcare hospital. The objectives of the study were to examine (1) the psychological, social, and technological factors that predict patients' and clinical providers' adoption of a new electronic-mobile digital health platform and (2) the extent to which the use of this platform coincided with changes in patients' engagement and satisfaction with their care, as well as recovery, over time. To investigate our research questions, we used a longitudinal, mixed-methods study design. This study has offered us unique research-related opportunities, such as the ability to collaborate with experts from diverse disciplines (e.g., clinicians, information technology specialists), and being on the cutting edge of clinical practice change. However, we also faced challenges in fulfilling our research goals--many of which related to our position as an external research group working alongside a large, multidisciplinary, industryinstitution partnership team. Some of the challenges that we encountered include navigating complicated communication structures, technology-related delays, and institution-specific ethical requirements. All of these opportunities and challenges had notable impacts on our study's execution and design. This article offers valuable advice and insight to researchers who may be interested in evaluating mobile mental healthcare technologies, emphasizing the importance of effective collaboration, flexible methodological approaches, and resilience while conducting research as a part of a large partnership project
