Summary |
This is a story about civil liberty and equality. During Bush's presidential campaign he embraced the gay republican club known as 'Log Cabin'. They tirelessly supported him and his campaign and embraced him when he came into office. The fact they were gay was irrelevant, they were Republicans first and foremost. There were issues and clear barriers for gays. A young, male, smart gay republican tried for office but the Republicans made it clear they didn't want him because he was gay. And then came the biggest blow of all just 4 years into his presidency and campaigning this time to stay in power, Bush made a public speech condemning gay marriages and stating marriage should be between man and woman. He couldn't have discriminated more against his loyal gay campaigners. Bush put homosexuality into the headlines and once more it became as taboo as the abortion to Evangelical, conservative Bush followers. The Log Cabin Club were thrown into the biggest oxymoron. How can they continue to support Bush and fight for the future of their country when what they could be voting for decries their very being? |
