Ash-Lee W. Henderson -- Marilyn Shaw -- Adrian Washington -- Jonathan Lewis -- Djuan Coleon |
Summary |
Conference proceedings of veteran and youth activists gathered at Shaw University in North Carolina to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Student Non-Violent Coordinating Committee (SNCC), an organization which formed the vanguard of the Civil Rights Movement |
|
Volume 32: Members of this panel (Panel 626) insist that SNCC continues to influence their work. "We know that not only policy must be changed," says Jonathan Lewis of the Gathering for Justice, "but the attitudes that support our work." Another panelist, Djuan Coleon of the National Alliance of Faith and Justice says 17 states are following SNCC's footsteps and trying to take grassroots organization into education. "SNCC", says Ace Washington of the Baltimore Algebra Project is, "Something I want to go on." |
