Summary Last week, Compass presented part one of The Fundamentalists - an examination of the different forms that religious fundamentalism takes all around the world. We looked at who the fundamentalists were, their differences, similarities, and how religion guides every aspect of their lives. In the second and final instalment shown this week, presenter and former Dominican Friar Mark Dowd continues his exploration of religious fundamentalism, meeting militant Buddhist monks in Sri Lanka who have embraced a radical nationalist agenda to fight the dominantly Hindu Tamil Tigers. They argue that they cannot stop bombs by meditating, despite the frustration of the local Buddhist leaders.Mark also explores the birth of Islamic fundamentalism in Iran, and visits British Muslims debating different understandings of the Koran.Mark then travels to Gaza, where he is confronted with a completely new world as he meets the proud parents of two suicide bombers. Finally, he visits two very different Jewish women with opposing views, with each committed to living on disputed land no matter what the cost.PRODUCTION DETAILS:BBC Productions.
