Summary A model has been developed at AMRL, to describe the impact penetration of soft armour. This model uses a direct - step method to determine the motion of the impacting projectile and of the fabric undergoing impact. The determination of the ballistic limit, residual velocity and the dependence of the ballistic limit on the areal density of the impacted fabric are discussed. Comparisons with experimental results are presented
