Summary |
Stieg Larsson's Millennium books (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, The Girl Who Played with Fire and The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets Nest), are selling like hotcakes worldwide. Although they are considered mysteries, Gabrielsson says they are actually fierce social criticism. Films were made of the books in Sweden and currently Hollywood is producing its own versions. Eva Gabrielsson was Larsson's partner for thirty years. In this film she talks for the first time about his literary intent and about the reality behind his books. She believes the film industry has subverted the original meaning of the books in its attempt to squeeze as much money as possible out of the series. In her opinion, the films have been marketed as action stories instead of " ... a critical portrait of women's oppression in a patriarchal society," (specifically how men use sexual violence against women). In this documentary, Gabrielsson is also seen working with a Swedish theatre company creating a stage version. 29 min.**Warning: There is sexually graphic material in the film.
