The Intercollegiate Athletics Board (IAB), the athletic control board at Alfred State, was tasked with providing a recommendation to the college president's council on a proposal to eliminate the school's swimming and diving programs and to convert its swimming facility into an auxiliary gymnasium. The proposals were in response to internal and external audits identifying indoor facility space as Alfred State's biggest athletic need as it transitioned from junior college status to the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III. After a short period of debate, the proposals were ultimately rejected. This case study encourages students to consider the process needed to make complex decisions within the sport and business industries
