Summary |
Intra-operative transoesophageal echocardiography (TOE) is used to obtain high quality, ultrasonic images of the heart and associated structures during surgery. An examination of the heart and vessels may be performed pre-operatively and pre-bypass to assess the clinical situation; intra-operatively to review the surgical result and monitor ventricular function, and/or post-operatively to assist in management of intravascular volume and pharmacology. This report summarises the assessment of current evidence for intra-operative transoesophageal echocardiography to monitor cardiac function during surgery |
