Teaching Statistics: Guidelines for Elementary Through High School describes why and how statistics should be taught in grades K-12. Ten general principles for teaching statistics and probability are outlined, and twenty-eight activities are described, each illustrating on a specific objective for certain grade levels. The activities emphasize hands-on work and involve students in collecting and interpreting their own data ; emphasize evaluating and communicating possible solutions rather than finding the "right" answers ; include extension and assessment ideas ; can be used as a starting point and guide for developing and evaluating other activities. The Teaching Statistics guidelines were developed by a task force of statisticians and teachers and are consistent with materials created by the NCTM's and ASA's Joint Committee on the Curriculum in Statistics and Probability. -- from back cover
