Summary |
In this four-part series, Kevin McCloud travels the globe, meeting people who have relocated to the most surprising and unlikely places in pursuit of a pared down existence, off-grid and out of the rat race.As our cities become more crowded, and our lives ever more stressful, Kevin wants to find out whether a simpler life in the wild could make us happier, and what can we learn from this new aspirational type of wilderness living? Each episode, Kevin travels to far flung destinations to see how others have built their lives and dwellings against the odds. Often the jaw-dropping beautiful landscapes belie a harsh reality for the people who have chosen to build their lives there. On arrival, Kevin immerses himself in local life, mucking in with the locals in order to experience first-hand what life is really like in these remote places. Along the way, he experiences the simple life-affirming pleasure of sitting around the campfire sipping homemade moonshine to pitching a hammock and sleeping under the glow of the Northern Lights. In episode one, Kevin meets Boris and Karyn von Engelbrechten and their three sons, who left their home near Bath eight years ago and relocated to the small island of Fofoa in Tonga.PRODUCTION DETAILS:Produced by Optomen. Executive Producers: Sue Murphy and Patrick Furlong |
