Summary |
A young woman discusses how she feels overwhelmed monthly, having intense abdominal menstrual cramps, breast tenderness, gaining weight due to holding water, dizziness, headaches, back pain, and food cravings with overeating. She reports having the symptoms since her first menses at age eleven and that it intensified with age, becoming much worse after giving birth. She reports her moods become labile, crying easily or being irritable, yelling at coworkers and her children. She also describes low energy levels and poor concentration. She describes her symptoms caused her to lose two jobs. She talks about the many stresses in her life. She keeps a journal to document her feelings and symptoms, learning she “becomes a different person” and reading the journal helps her to know she will overcome the symptoms. She denies psychotic symptoms. She reports depression runs on her mother’s side of the family. She denies suicidal thoughts. She saw a therapist for depression after her divorce but was not treated with medications. She describes doing very well between bouts associated with menses |
