Summary |
Art Nation starts the year going global, looking at some of the latest offerings in Australian, New Zealand and Central American contemporary visual arts. Host of Art Nation, Fenella Kernebone begins in Tasmania, checking out MONA, Hobart's newly opened Museum of Old and New Art. Housing the controversial Sex and Death collection of arts patron and multi millionaire David Walsh, MONA is set to put Hobart on the map as a major cultural tourism destination. Next it's a visit to Unnerved, the New Zealand project at Melbourne's NGV, the latest contemporary art from one of our closest Pacific neighbours.Art Nation then travels across the Pacific to Mexico City to visit artists exhibiting at the cutting edge contemporary art space - Luis Adelantado Gallery. Also this week, Henry Wagons meets renowned Disney animator Glen Keane at ACMI's Dreams Come True exhibition celebrating Disney's animated feature films. Best known as lead animator on films like The Little Mermaid and Beauty And The Beast, Keane maintains that, even in the digital age, drawing is still at the heart of animation.A new segment on the program, ABC Open, brings us contributions from Australia's regional audience. This week, we meet 83 year old amateur photographer Bill Llewellyn from Ballarat. Bill has recorded thousands of images around Ballarat since the 50s, was instrumental in starting the town's camera clubs and even has a camera museum in his shed! |
