In 1948 the Magnetic Amplifiers Subcommittee of the American Institute of Electrical Engineers was formed. On Jan. 1, 1965, the Nonlinear Magnetics Committee was reorganized to form the Magnetics Group, which in 1971 became the IEEE Magnetics Society. When the American Institute of Electrical Engineers merged with the Institute of Radio Engineers in Jan. 1963 to form the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, the Nonlinear Magnetics Committee continued as a subdivision of the new body. On Jan. 1, 1965, the Nonlinear Magnetics Committee was reorganized to form the Magnetics Group, which in 1971 became the IEEE Magnetics Society.
