"In this basal text for the course in educational psychology the authors aim to supply an effective instrument for the training of teachers, rather than to promulgate any new psychological theory. Their objective is a well-balanced, practical exposition of educational psychology as applied to the actual learning situation. The authors have not sponsored any one school of thought; nor have they subscribed to hypothetical principles that cannot be substantiated by evidence. The emphasis, rather, is upon those generally accepted principles that underlie correct learning and teaching habit. An important and valuable feature of the text is found in the learning exercises for the reader at the end of each chapter. These are not mere questions on the text; they are thought questions with direct application to the teacher's problem. This is more than a book of readings. It is so carefully organized that it constitutes a closely connected study of the principles of educational psychology. But it is also more than a book of principles. There is, throughout, a strong emphasis upon the relation of the principles of educational psychology to methods of teaching.
